Friday, February 7th was not just another day of class for 2 aspiring entrepreneurs from Palm Beach Gardens High School. Chabeli Montas and Emily Escobar, both Juniors Participating in the Five Star Magnet Program shadowed two of Palm Beach County’s Top Realtors, Husband and Wife Team, Brett & Jody Boettge of Keller Williams Realty. The two students arrived with a sharp eye for quality, a long list of accolades and an eagerness to “Sell”.
“I could sense that Emily and Chabeli were expecting an experience right out of an episode of HGTV’s House Hunters and although that would have been incredibly fun, I thought it was important to deliver a true “Day In the Life.” Said Brett Boettge, Broker Associate at Keller Williams Realty. The morning started with research on a home volunteered by local investor Sean Hogan at 401 Chevron Circle in Jupiter, FL 33458. The students were put through the paces discovering any mortgages on the property, taking notes on square footage, bedrooms, baths in preparation for a valuation.
After about an hour and a half, both Emily and Chabeli with Brett’s guidance valued the home at $380,000 subject to their onsite visit to verify the information they compiled earlier in the morning. “I can only imagine after all the facts, figuring, research and writing of contracts they were second guessing their job shadow choice. I knew they would enjoy the second half of the day.”
Emily and Chabeli reviewed and critiqued homes on the popular home search site REALTOR.com after the research was complete. They compared properties with low grade photographs shot from a phone, some that catch the photographer in the bathroom mirror and even one of a neighboring Police Station. “How obvious our student’s reactions were to the appearance of these featured listings should be a wake up call to our industry. The next generation of home buyers will be making their choices in High Definition and very quickly.” commented Brett Boettge.
Lunch time arrived allowing time for more casual conversation and an opportunity for the real estate Brokers to learn about coming trends in Social Media. The theme was photography and video delivered with social tools like Snapchat and Instagram before a conversation of Facebook even started. “That lunch we learned so much from Emily & Chabeli about what is trending it certainly will change the way we do business in 2014.” said Jody.
Lunch wrapped up and the real estate team headed to 401 Chevron to view the property, verify the details for their valuation as well as meet Top Photographer’s Ralph & Brandy Venuti of Liansley Photography. The students with “Laser Tape Meaures” in hand toured the 5 bedroom remodeled home in the heart of Jupiter, FL and quickly fell in love. “I loved the details of the crown molding, beautiful ceilings and the tile on the first floor.” said Chabeli with the confidence of a seasoned agent and the eye of an interior designer. “You just don’t see homes in the heart of Jupiter at this price point with so much space, detail and an amazing pool.” commented Jody Boettge. Liansley Photography arrived and shared with the students how to take amazing photographs and took HDR shots of both the Master Bedroom and Exterior.
The Students headed back to the office to send thank you notes to the owner of the home and prepared a marketing strategy that would ensure the future owner of 401 Chevron Circle can easily find it. Sean Hogan owner of 401 Chevron in Jupiter, FL said, “It is really great to see the younger generation take an interest in something as practical, as real estate. I only wish someone had introduced it to me at such a young and impressionable age.”
On February, 7th 2014 Emily Escobar and I were assigned to attend Keller Williams Realty, where we met Brett and Jody Boettge. We were introduced to a whole new type of experience one in which we learned the process of real estate, whether it was simply doing research or working on paperwork we found the experience to be thrilling. We were also introduced to the home prep process of real estate the whole process itself was fascinating and led to the question on whether or not I should consider switching my profession and receive my real estate license right away! Brett and Jody Boettge truly made the experience worthwhile and enjoyable.
